VACATION IN MOAB, UTAH: SO MANY WAYS TO LOVE SPRING BREAK!
The first time I vacationed in Moab, Utah I was skeptical. I envisioned a tourist trap full of bars, partiers, and thrill-seekers. What I found WAS thrilling! Moab is a family-friendly destination location for every kind of thrill seeker.
Downtown Moab, Utah is filled with restaurants, local breweries, wineries, shops, and lodging. Venturing outside of town, vacationers will find opportunities for water sports on the beautiful Colorado River. There is mountain biking, mountain climbing, ATV riding, skydiving, base jumping, hiking, and camping.
BOON-DOCKING IN MOAB
My personal favorite is boon-docking in the mountains! Boon-docking is also called camping off-grid. My husband and I, as well as our friends, have camped off grid in campers and tents, and even in our semi-truck. For those who don’t wish to camp off grid, there are hotels, private rentals, RV parks, and hostels.
I love rock crawling with my Polaris Razor XP 1000 or Jeep Rubicon. I have friends that even take their dirt bikes on the trails. The ATV rider will never run out of trails to ride or boulder on vacation. However, research your trails in Moab. Some of them require lockers and winches. Others are for mountain bikers and hikers. Still, others aren’t for the faint of heart!
MOAB IS AN ADVENTURIST’S DREAM
For the hobbyist, there is geology, history, photography, dinosaur fossils, and prints. Petroglyphs spread across red mountains, and slick rock. Additionally, the area touts four national and state parks. For star lovers, there are three Dark Sky Parks: Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, and Dead Horse Point State Park. Moab also offers zip lines, tours, helicopter rides, and a dinosaur museum. If you want to cool off from the summer sun, play in the Colorado River or visit miles of wind tunnels under Moab.
DON’T FORGET!
Keep in mind that you need to be prepared for the weather in Moab. Know the forecast for your vacation. Some days can start with snow and end in extreme heat. Also take into consideration the change in terrain and weather with the change in elevation. Pack food, water, necessary toiletries, and emergency supplies. Pack your needs in and your refuse out.
Don’t walk on the black crust growing across the ground. The biological soil crust is alive and provides nutrition to its surroundings. Once it’s destroyed the crust takes centuries to regrow.
